Arthritis in Cats

girl w catOngoing treatment and care is the best outcome for a pain-free lifestyle

Osteoarthritis also known as degenerative joint disease has long been viewed as affecting dogs and has to some degree been ignored in cats. This form of arthritis is generally the result of wear and tear on joint cartilage or is secondary to a previous injury to the joint. The joints become thickened, stiff and painful. Cats tend to lead relatively sedentary lives (especially older cats) and so many of the obvious symptoms we associate with arthritis in dogs are not seen in cats.

How to recognise subtle changes in your cat

Osteoarthritis (OA) is harder to diagnosis in cats than in dogs.  Cats often appear to be normal but they are actually suffering in silence.

The good news is that with the right treatment, regular check-ups and a little work on your part, your cat can be healthy and active once more.  Read more on symptoms and treatments
